Why do you need book insurance?

Books are fragile and can be easily damaged. Pages can be torn and stains can appear. An escape of water from a nearby pipe could leave your precious book collection damaged beyond repair. If you travel with your books then this is when they are most likely to be damaged, in transit from one place to another.

What happens if I need to make a claim?

If you make a claim on an insurance policy for loss, damage or theft then you will be asked to provide a valuation or receipt. It is therefore important to keep a file of sales receipts, dealer and auction house descriptions of purchased items. You must also monitor vales and be ready to increase your policy’s limits now and then.

Do you have any tips on how to best safeguard my books?

Never keep your books somewhere damp or drafty. Also beware of the sun, exposure to sunlight can damage books. If you are worried by fingerprints and general wear and tear, then use clear plastic dust jackets to guard against this.
