You’ve probably scrolled through ample LinkedIn posts today from happy-faced insurance agents attending ‘#BIBA23’.

The BIBA (British Insurance Brokers’ Association) conference is the insurance flag ship event of the year with 8,000 people a day heading to Manchester Central on May 10th and 11th.

From past experiences and testimonies, we offer 7 reasons why BIBA is the must place to be this week:

  1. Networking Opportunities: The BIBA conference brings together insurance brokers, insurers, industry experts, and professionals from various sectors of the insurance industry. It provides a platform for networking, establishing connections, and fostering business relationships. Attendees can meet potential clients, partners, and suppliers, and exchange ideas and insights.
  2. Industry Insights and Education: The conference offers a range of seminars, workshops, and keynote speeches presented by industry leaders and experts. These sessions cover a wide array of topics relevant to the insurance industry, including regulatory updates, emerging trends, technological advancements, and best practices. Attendees can gain valuable knowledge, stay informed about industry developments, and enhance their professional expertise.
  3. Exhibitions and Product Showcases: The BIBA conference features a large exhibition area where insurance companies, service providers, and industry vendors showcase their products, services, and innovations. Attendees have the opportunity to explore new technologies, solutions, and offerings in the market, facilitating informed decision-making and potential partnerships.
  4. Professional Development: The conference offers opportunities for professional development and continuing education. It may include workshops or sessions that provide insights into skill-building, leadership, sales techniques, and compliance requirements. Attendees can enhance their knowledge and skills, empowering them to excel in their roles and advance their careers.
  5. Regulatory Updates and Compliance: The insurance industry is subject to frequent regulatory changes and compliance requirements. The BIBA conference often addresses these updates, providing guidance and clarity on regulatory matters. This helps brokers and industry professionals to stay informed and compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
  6. Industry Influence and Advocacy: BIBA is an influential association that represents the interests of insurance brokers in the UK. The conference serves as a platform for discussing and advocating for key industry issues, policies, and reforms. Attendees can participate in discussions, contribute to industry debates, and influence the direction of the insurance sector.
  7. Social and Enjoyable Environment: Most importantly perhaps, the BIBA conference offers a vibrant and social atmosphere, allowing attendees to relax, socialize, and enjoy themselves. Networking events, dinners, and social activities provide opportunities for informal interactions and building relationships in a more relaxed setting.

I started working in the insurance industry in 2004. Four years later, I left to focus on theological studies, working as a youth worker and then as a ministry director in Seattle, USA. When returning to the UK, I had an opportunity to work for the late Andrew Marchington. I joined his firm as a sales advisor when it had around ten staff members. Within three years, I was Head of Ops with a staff team of over 30 people. After a chance encounter in 2019 with Rachel Living and Will Cooper, I co-started Stanhope to build a high-value home, luxury watch, and jewellery broker synonymous with trust. I love being with Donna, my wife, and four kids when not working, cramming in the odd row, or run when I can. I am fortunate to love what I do and consider it a blessing to grow the Stanhope brand.
