Holiday gatherings and winter getaways often mean more travelling, and potentially, more risk for your most valuable possessions. Jewellery, watches and other luxury items can attract the wrong kind of attention, or be misplaced during the season’s festivities. Here’s how to safeguard what matters most while enjoying the season with confidence.

Practical measures for security

  • Secure storage: If you don’t already have one, invest in a high-grade safe or bank deposit box to keep your belongings safe
  • Controlled access: Keep your things in private areas, and make sure not to broadcast their location
  • Avoid social media: Showcasing your luxury pieces on social media can attract opportunists
  • Smart surveillance: Alarm and camera systems can offer you peace of mind, even when you’re not at your property
  • Inventory check: Keep a record of your collection and what you’ve brought with you before and after your travels.

Check you’re covered

  • Specialist coverage: Make sure your policy includes theft, accidental damage, and worldwide protection
  • Regular valuation: Luxury items often appreciate with time, so you’ll want to frequently update your cover following the most recent valuation
  • Specialised policies: If you’ve got bespoke pieces, think about bespoke cover
  • Travel extensions: Double-check your cover applies while you’re abroad for extra security
  • Digital documentation: Store your receipts securely online so any claims can be processed swiftly.

Not just any protection will do for your most treasured possessions. Get a quote today or speak to Stanhope about high-value home cover.

I telephone Stanhope, who walked me through the on-line application process. The team were very friendly and helpful. The on-line form was easy and straightforward. Overall a very good experience.

I started working in the insurance industry in 2004. Four years later, I left to focus on theological studies, working as a youth worker and then as a ministry director in Seattle, USA. When returning to the UK, I had an opportunity to work for the late Andrew Marchington. I joined his firm as a sales advisor when it had around ten staff members. Within three years, I was Head of Ops with a staff team of over 30 people. After a chance encounter in 2019 with Rachel Living and Will Cooper, I co-started Stanhope to build a high-value home, luxury watch, and jewellery broker synonymous with trust. I love being with Donna, my wife, and four kids when not working, cramming in the odd row, or run when I can. I am fortunate to love what I do and consider it a blessing to grow the Stanhope brand.
